Under the Direction of the Wardrobe Manager, the Seamer/Seamstress is responsible for operating a sewing machine to join, gather, hem, reinforce, construct and decorate uniforms. The Seamer/Seamstress is also responsible for the mass production of accessories. Fits, measures and performs all other necessary alterations to Enterprise issued wardrobe.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform uniform sewing, alternations, and embellishments with accuracy and efficiency to include taking up stride, lengthening/shortening tails on shirts, tapering shirts, adjusting waists, hemming trousers, mending tears, replacing zippers, applying patches, applying name strips, applying striping and applying patches. 

2. Provide exceptional service to customers. Appreciate the artistry and expertise behind making adjustments that result in a correct fitting uniform. Take necessary measurement and mark garments for alterations with ability to problem solve individual sizing issues. 

3. Operate industrial sewing machinery and strive to meet departmental needs as well as individual productivity goals while following proper processes and procedures.  During certain parts of the year mass production of accessories may be deemed necessary.   

4. Measures customer for size, using tape measure, tailors chalk, pins and records   measurements and modifications into garment tracked computerized software system. 

5. Communicate supply needs to management, ensure supplies are available at all times. Maintain equipment and report damage or broken equipment immediately. 

6. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department. 

Education/Experience/Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.  

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience and/or training in a retail, department store and/or a uniform company supplying tailored garments required. 

  • Intermediate level of sewing using industrial sewing machine, serger, iron and blind hemmer or equivalent experience required. 

  • Computer experience and garment tracking computerized software program preferred. 

  • Strong written and verbal skills, as well as solid attention to details (i.e. you always measure twice and cut once) required. 

  • Ability to juggle competing priorities, have follow-through and strong organizational skills that allow you to thrive in a fast paced environment required. 

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
