Position Summary

 The Cultural Resource Coordinator (CRC) will ensure the effective delivery of cultural resources and programs to the Pueblo of Sandia, with the primary focus being children, youth and families, in Tiwa language learning, fostering a strong sense of well-being and positive identity. The CRC is responsible for providing and facilitating access to language learning materials and opportunities through traditional teachings, face-to-face instruction, community activities in a safe and acceptable environment. The CRC will promote cultural awareness, support language instruction and cultural based activities and work with Elders and traditional people to meet the language and cultural needs of the community. The CRC will plan and deliver programs through an integrated approach, in a team environment, and where appropriate and necessary, in partnership with external agencies. The position requires a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

1. Coordinates lesson planning and instruction of the Tiwa language program.
2. Works extensively with native speakers and parents in the community to generate interest and commitment to the language program.
3. Works directly with language staff and the multi-media coordinator on the production of curriculum materials and edited videotapes that will document the program.
4. Plans and conducts linguistically-oriented activities for all levels of language learners in the community.
5. Develops methods for assessment of language acquisition for all levels of learners.
6. Strong knowledge and awareness of Tiwa culture and history, with particular emphasis on family and youth engagement and community outreach.
7. Coordinate culture/ Elder/senior appreciation activities and Elder/youth knowledge exchange /mentorship activities with Senior Meal Site Manager/Coordinator.
8. Provide space and opportunities for traditional arts & crafting.
9. Assist in the development, implementation, and facilitation of new and relevant cultural services/programs.
10. Create and maintain a traditional knowledge/Elder resource/directory.
11. To provide insight and support in the development of protocols and agreements with internal and external departments as directed.
12. To attend meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences that relate to the Cultural Resource Coordinator duties.
13. Assists in the planning and conducting of training opportunities in the Tiwa language.
14. Identifies and provides language staff training opportunities.
15. Work with the Grants Administrator in developing additional funds for the program.

8. Knowledge of native historical and contemporary issues.
9. Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with outside organizations and other

agencies;

Minimum Qualifications, Education And Experience

Required

1. High School Diploma or GED certification or equivalent.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Education Administration or related field, with a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated and related work experience within a native organization or community and/or any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years.
3. 3. Must have a basic understanding of the Tiwa language. 
4. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.

Licensing Status

1. Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.

Working Conditions

1. Duties are performed indoors.
2. Work is normally performed on weekdays, although weekend and evening work may be required.
3. Subject to hazards such as driving in traffic.
4. Duties may involve walking, climbing, crouching, kneeling, sitting, and standing.
5. Specific required movements include the following: (25 lbs., maximum)

• Trunk – bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, carry.
• Arms – reach, carry, push, pull, twist, rotate.
• Legs – push, pull, twist, rotate, balance.
• Hands – grasp, manipulate, eye and hand coordination.
