Poarch Band of Creek Indians

Atmore, AL

The Poarch Creek Indians are descendants of a segment of the original Creek Nation that once covered almost all of Alabama and Georgia.
Unlike many eastern Indian tribes, we were not removed from our tribal lands and have lived together for almost 200 years in and around the reservation in Poarch, Alabama. Our reservation is located eight miles northwest of Atmore, Alabama in rural Escambia County, about 57 miles east of Mobile.

Our mission is to preserve our proud heritage while moving forward into the mainstream of today’s modern society and to maintain both our identity and inherent right to self-govern is evident as we preserve our Tribal culture and improve our community.
We are an active partner in the state of Alabama, contributing to economic, educational, social and cultural projects benefiting both Tribal Members and residents of local communities and neighboring towns.

We are proud of our heritage and spirit, and value our Tribal Members, encourages open communication and participation in all of our activities, promote progressive partnerships with our neighbors and other organizations, and are a supportive, welcoming community that features exceptional economic and community development opportunities for all Tribal Members.

We bring a reservoir of expert knowledge to secure the health, education, and well-being of all Tribal Members today and in the future. We act as role models who go beyond the call of duty and leaders who instill confidence in the fairness and wisdom of government decisions and actions.
