Morongo Band of Mission Indians is growing! We are seeking a dynamic development professional to join our team as the Economic Development and Planning Manager! Under the direction of the Economic Development and Planning Committee (EDPC), actively seek, coordinate, and analyze business projects and proposals to present to the EDPC with recommendations and well-researched fiscal and economic impact aligned with the tribe’s general plan and its goals for continued and expanded economic prosperity, self-governence, and sovereignty. Once projects are approved, the Economic Development & Planning Manager will work with relevant personnel and Finance to coordinate and execute projects in order to promote economic diversification for the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

  • Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, public or business administration, economics, urban planning, or a closely related field. Masters of Business Administration degree is preferred. A minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in economic development, commercial and industrial real estate, urban redevelopment, finance, accounting, management, business development, or ownership. Proven record of successful economic development projects. Tribal experience preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license and be insurable on company policy
  • A record of excellent performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers, as well as completed economic development projects.
  • Principles and practices of business retention, negotiation technique, economic development, synthesization of general plan with proposals, and problem resolution
  • Business valuation procedures
  • Cash flow analysis – current year and projected
  • Trend analysis
  • Analyses of operating and net margins, etc.
  • Federal, state, and local resources for economic development
  • Current trends and issues in economic development
  • Economics of real estate development
  • Principles of municipal budgeting, finance, accounting, marketing, business management, and grants applications as it relates to economic development
  • Procedures and requirements associated with the development process
  • Zoning, land use terminology, and development standards
  • Tribal standards and requirements concerning planning and construction programs and projects or the ability to learn
  • Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Tribal organization, operations, policies, and objectives or the ability to learn
  • Budget preparation and control
  • The ability to develop business financial statements, including pro-forma statements for estimated future performance
  • Communicate expertly both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports.
  • Direct the maintenance of a variety of reports, records and files related to assigned activities.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Morongo Band of Mission Indians

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians Reservation is set at the foot of the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains, and spans more than 35,000 acres and overlooks the vistas of the Banning Pass. Morongo Band of Mission Indians employs a variety of support and professional personnel to assist in daily operations. Morongo Tribal Administration is comprised of Social Services, Fire Department, Public Safety, Morongo Tribal Police, TANF, Public Works, Education Services, and much more.

The Tribe is continually seeking to diversify its interests, both in and out of the gaming arena. In addition to its AAA Four Diamond Resort, the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, Morongo also runs the 36-pump Morongo Travel Center, local legend Hadley Fruit Orchards, Canyon Lanes Bowling Center and the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. Additionally, the Tribe has agreements with Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water, who operates a bottling plant on the Morongo Reservation. The tribe acquired Hadley Fruit Orchards' three retail stores including the company's mail order and franchise rights. The Morongo Gold Club at Tukwet Canyon offers 36 world-class holes, state of the art practice facilities, outstanding amenities along with personalized customer service.

Morongo has become the largest private sector employer in the Banning-Beaumont region and is a major contributor to the San Gorgonio Pass economy.

The Tribe (Tribal Government and MCRS) now employs more than 3,000 people, with more than two thirds of the Morongo workforce composed of residents from the San Gorgonio Pass.
