Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Serving as subject matter expert for the leave programs in alignment with our HR and Legal departments. Responsible for interpreting and administering leave programs and policies in accordance with applicable law. Provides extensive case management and coordinates administrative aspects of leave cases to include tracking of hours used/taken, regular communication updates to stakeholders, and team members. Tracks and conducts necessary follow up on all LOA inquiries and approved leaves starting at time of request to the time employee returns to work. 

2. Working closely with team members across the enterprises providing guidance, counsel, and education on leave policies, procedures, and programs ensuring team members understand eligibility and options while providing excellent customer service. Process leaves in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.  

3. Managing leave cases to ensure all relevant completed medical documentation for timely review, processing, determination, and return to work. Approves and/or denies leave cases based on relevant medical information. Responsible for entering and updating records, and appropriate notifications are made. Keeping detailed records of all leave requests, approvals, and denials, and ability to speak knowledgably to each case handled.  

4. Manages Workday Cases, email outreaches, and phone call messages for leave of absences within the determined service level expectations. 

5. Submits EDD State Disability Claims for employees on leave of absence and coordinates disability benefits and pay.  

6. Must comply with HIPPA rules regarding authorized use, training, storage, and destruction of protected health information (PHI) are effectively executed. Maintains up-to-date knowledge and updates Human Resource staff on state and federal changes related to any regulated leaves. Ensures compliance with administrative documents. 

7. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department. 

Education/Experience/Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field and certifications required. 

  • 2+ years’ experience working within Human Resources managing leave of absence cases required. 

  • 2+ years’ experience working with Employee Relations issues preferred. 

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above. 

  • Experience administering FMLA, CFRA, military, pregnancy disability, parental and personal leaves. 

  • Knowledge of FMLA and ADA requirements. 

  • Ability to analyze information and convert it to a comprehensive work plan. 

  • High attention to detail, effective organizational skills, customer service oriented, and able to produce a high volume of work while multi-tasking in a fast-paced deadline oriented environment. 

  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.  

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
