About the tribe

The tribe’s economic development authority, Mno Bmadsen, and its community development financial institution, Chi Ishobak, are helping improve the business and financial climate for both Band citizens and the region. Between multiple tribal government entities and Four Winds Casinos in New Buffalo, Hartford, and Dowagiac, the Pokagon Band has put more than 2,200 people to work, creating livelihoods and careers that benefit families and communities. New construction projects—such as the expansion of the Pokegnek Édawat housing development and the construction of Four Winds Dowagiac—have put nearly 1850 tradespersons and 450 apprentices to work since 2010.

In the past four years, the Pokagons have worked with over 3,300 vendors in Indiana and Michigan, and have paid them nearly $387 million, helping spur economic development and business growth. As the Pokagon Band continues such community development efforts as a new Cultural Center, and expands with its new property in South Bend, there is an ongoing need to work with vendors and employ additional workers.

Thanks to cooperative agreements between the Band and various local governments, since 2007 the Band has paid nearly $71 million to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and more than $24 million to local governments in the New Buffalo area. The Pokagon Fund, a private foundation established by one cooperative agreement, has enhanced the lives of the residents in the New Buffalo area and near Pokagon Band communities in South Bend, Dowagiac, and Hartford by awarding $12.8 million to local governments and nonprofits since 2007.

Four Winds South Bend, centrally located in South Bend, Indiana, features 317 luxurious rooms, including 83 suites, a seasonal pool, and the Cedar Spa. The Casino features over 1,900 slots including progressives, 27 table games including blackjack and craps, a player’s lounge, and a 12 table Live Poker room.

Guests can dine in six restaurants, including the five-star Copper Rock Steakhouse, The Buffet, Kankakee Grille and Edgewater Café, relax with friends at five cocktail lounges & bars, or shop in the retail center. Headliner entertainment and special events are featured at the Ribbon Town Conference and Event Center.

Four Winds New Buffalo is located in Michigan just across the Indiana border in the lakeside resort town of New Buffalo,  less than an hour’s drive from Downtown Chicago, on the shores of Lake Michigan.  The hotel features 415 luxurious rooms, including 152 suites, a seasonal pool, and retail shops. The Casino offers more than 2,000 slots, the largest progressive jackpots in the area, 41 table games and a Sports Book. Guests can dine at one of four award-winning restaurants including Copper Rock Steakhouse® and Kankakee Grille. Silver Creek Event Center features headliner entertainment and special events.

Four Winds Hartford is a short drive from New Buffalo and Kalamazoo, MI. The Casino offers 450 of the latest slots and a selection of favorite table games. The Timbers Fast Food & Deli offers light fare cuisine.

Four Winds Dowagiac is located on M-51 South in the beautiful and quaint town of Dowagiac, Michigan. Our 18,000 square foot gaming floor features over 430 next generation slot machines, ranging from penny slots to $25 games, as well as Blackjack and Roulette tables.
