San Manuel teachers play an essential role in creating the foundation of academic rigor and establishing culturally rich classrooms by upholding the school's mission, and values, aligned to the Tribe’s 2040 vision. Reporting to the Assistant Principal, Teachers will create a best-in-class education that will sustain the Tribe’s sovereignty and prepare the youth for leadership in the Nation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Curriculum 

Utilizes the course of study adopted by the Education Board and aligned to California State Standards. Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each student's needs. Plans and delivers engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, with an inclusion model. Teaches core academic subjects and supports in cultural and language activities and events, encouraging critical thinking and fostering a deep understanding of the Tribe’s history and Serrano language. Develops successful members of the global society promoting the 4 Competencies of the 21st century learning skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creative thinking. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technology to enhance student learning and engagement.

2. Immersion and Cultural Programing  

Implements a planned Serrano immersion program for elementary students following curriculum specified by the San Manuel Tribe’s language program. Structures activities in the classroom to encourage students to engage in both language input and output, to facilitate oral language production and comprehension. Provides educational experiences that reflect the Tribal School mission, vision and values.

3. Student Centered Differentiation   

Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with learning differences. Provides additional support or enrichment activities to students who require individualized attention. Collaborate with special education teachers, intervention specialists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans as needed.

4. Assessment and Progress Monitoring 

Assesses students' academic progress and understanding through formative and summative assessments. Uses assessment data to inform instruction and provides targeted interventions or enrichment opportunities. Provides constructive feedback to students, including specific suggestions for improvement in writing and critical thinking skills. Collaborate with colleagues to analyze student data and participate in data-driven decision-making.

5. Classroom Management  

Establishes a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect, cooperation, and active student participation. Sets clear expectations for behavior and academic performance, and consistently enforces classroom rules and procedures. Manage student behavior effectively, addressing conflicts or disciplinary issues promptly and respectfully. Fosters a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and engaging in meaningful discussions.

6. Communication and Collaboration 

Establishes and maintains open and regular communication with students, parents, and guardians to keep them informed about student progress, classroom activities, and upcoming events. Collaborates with teaching staff and school leadership to align instruction and support a cohesive educational experience. Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences to enhance professional growth and contribute to the school community.

7. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

 EDUCATIONAL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.  

  • Experience in early childhood development and student enrichment services is preferred. 

  • California State Teaching Credential is required.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA) 

  • Must be willing and capable to learn the Serrano language. 

  • Knowledge of and experience with Indian Tribes is preferred. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to students and learning.   

  • Excellent relationship-building and management skills. 

  • Strong problem-solving and consensus-building abilities. 

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively. 

  • Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently. 

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS 

  • California State Teaching Credential is required.  

  • As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents are required to pass pre- and post-employment screening including Live-Scan, background, drug testing, and tuberculosis (TB) testing. 

  • Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
