SUMMARY:

Responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of team members engaged in calculating, posting, and verifying financial information for recording in the general ledger. Oversee revenue audit, accounts payable, and payroll.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties or responsibilities may be added.

  • Supervises all accounting and auditing team members.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts.
  • Reconciles all general ledger accounts and creates accounting reports.
  • Performs reconciliation on gaming and non-gaming activities, contracts, and vouchers as required and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions.
  • Maintains accounting subsystems, prepaid expense, fixed assists, A/R, A/P, and other subsystems to ensure they are in balance with the general ledger and differences are reconciled and reported to Director.
  • Analyzes and makes recommendations on accounts reserves, fixed assets, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Ensures timely completion of financial statements.
  • Advises and provides management with timely reviews of financial information and evaluations on department operations expenses.
  • Prepares budgets for assigned departments and maintains budget along with management objective.
  • Prepares, assists, and monitors all auditing functions including outside auditor activities, to ensure an unqualified audit opinion is obtained.
  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies, including Tribal, state, and federal agencies.  Ensures all agency fees and report are prepared timely.
  • Works closely with management and maintains good communication.
  • Performs other reconciliation or duties as assigned.
  • Assists in monthly closing.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings.
  • Maintains a consistent and regular attendance record.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures and promotes an environment that treats all people with respect.
  • Maintains a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Works to protect and increase the assets of the Company.
  • Any other duty as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Two years of experience required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Gaming and/or hospitality industry preferred.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be professional, polite, and respectful towards all guests (internal and external).
  • Must be able to handle extended hours when necessary and varying shifts.
  • Ability to influence others in a positive manner.
  • Ability to handle confidential and privileged information with extreme professionalism.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision and have good initiative to stay productive.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated patience, tact, and respect.
  • Must be able to work from oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and active listening skills.
  • Must be able to read and write common vocabulary.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Bilingual helpful although not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Talk or hear and interact with guests.
  • Stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel objects and utilize tools or controls in confined spaces.
  • Move in and around the gaming center, up and down stairs, through the parking lot, walk over uneven pavement, asphalt and dirt, or dirt walking from the building.
  • To communicate verbally, observe with own eyes, and give and receive information through listening and conversing. Specific vision abilities required by the job include unclouded vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting of 50 pounds.

Standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms may also be required while performing the job duties.

About Mechoopda Casino

Mechoopda Casino is an Indian gaming casino owned by the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria (Tribe). The casino is located near Chico, California, on a 91-acre site near Highways 99 and 149 on the south bank of Clear Creek. The casino is over 42,000 square feet and features over 450 slot machines, a full-service bar, and cafe.

Approvals
The Tribe has received federal, state and local approvals to build this casino. A gaming compact signed with the State of California on Jan. 31, 2019, authorizes a maximum of 2,000 slot machines.

Management
In January 2021 the Tribe partnered with Palace Hospitality to develop and manage the casino. Palace Hospitality is owned by the Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi-Yokut Tribe, which owns the Tachi Palace Casino Resort near Bakersfield, California.

Construction
The temporary structure was completed in January 2024 and opened to the public in February 2024.
