Essential Duties And Responsibilities

include the following:

  • Adheres to and enforces compliance with all regulations established by Louisiana State Police Gaming Division, OSHA, USCG, ABS Consulting, Inc. and other applicable agencies pertaining to riverboat gaming and riverboat operations while adhering to the policies and procedures set forth by Bally’s Resort Casino Shreveport. Ensures all riverboat work is performed in accordance with safe work practices, policies, and procedures. Ensures the comfort, cleanliness and safety of the riverboat for both guests and employees.
  • Fulfills emergency response duties assigned to the COW in Station Bills. Also fulfills duties as Riverboat Person-In-Charge in the absence of the Captain-In-Charge (CIC) and Engineer-In-Charge (EIC). As Riverboat Person-In-Charge initiates required response to emergency situations and understands duties of all positions assigned in Station Bills.
  • Monitors security radio channels, surveillance monitors mounted in the Pilot House, the fire detection system, AEVADS, environmental conditions and forecasts, and coffer cell levels.
  • Monitors phones and dispatches trouble/maintenance calls to the necessary department.
  • Conducts periodic walkthroughs of the riverboat spaces. Is attentive to the material condition and cleanliness of the riverboat and directs corrective actions as required. This duty is shared with the CIC. The EIC and the Engineer-Of-The-Watch (EOW) may assist the COW in checking spaces. Walkthroughs will be completed at least hourly. When not in the Pilot House, remains in contact with the Pilot House and Security Dispatch and keeps both informed of his/her location.
  • Ensures that the Pilot House is continuously manned by an employee qualified to initiate a response to safety system alerts. Specifically, the COW may be relieved by the CIC, the EIC, the EOW, or a Riverboat Technician who has been so qualified.
  • Prepares, maintains, completes, and submits necessary shift logs, records, and documents.
  • Cleaning, (sweeping, mopping, pressure washing) of the vessel interior and exterior spaces as directed.
  • Grinding and painting of vessel.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

include the following:

  • Coordinates routine shift operations with the Engineer-Of-The-Watch.
  • As Riverboat Person-In-Charge commands emergency response actions by all employees aboard the riverboat.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Successfully completes the COW Qualification Program.
  • Successfully completes an accredited course in basic firefighting. This requirement can be met by completing either (a) USCG-approved course or (b) training by the Shreveport Fire Department.
  • Successfully completes First Responder, CPR and Automated Electronic Defibrillator (AED) certification.
  • Knowledge of computers and the ability to generate documents and keep accurate records.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
Education And/Or Experience

High School Diploma.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Recent verifiable satisfactory service totaling at least three years as a Senior Deckhand, Oiler, or Security Shift Manager of a Louisiana Casino Riverboat, or equivalent marine experience.
  • Equivalent marine experience includes, but is not limited to:
    • Holds an active or inactive USCG Merchant Mariner’s Document (MMD) for a Qualified Rating (Able Seaman, Lifeboatman, or Qualified Member of the Engine Department) with at least three years’ experience. The MMD has not been revoked or suspended. The experience was obtained no more than ten years ago.
    • Previously qualified watch stander and supervisor of deck/operations personnel aboard government or military vessels that was less than ten years ago. Must show knowledge of vessel systems comparable to those aboard the riverboat. References or other proof of successful completion of duties will be required.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, bend, talk or hear. Frequently climb ladders and stairs. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with extreme noise conditions (protection provided). Must be able to hear and understand security radio transmissions during normal casino noise. Must be able to work in a smoking environment.

Additional Duties/ Job Dimensions

Regular attendance in conformance with standards, which may be established by Bally’s from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to Bally’s Attendance Policy. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality/entertainment industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property. This includes all shifts, weekends and holiday periods.
