Under the direction of the VP, of Tribal Community Services, the Director, of Tribal Services and Operational Excellence is a seasoned and Operational execution of approved objectives. Leads overall alignment within the department’s sub-verticals to ensure cohesion of goals and purpose and contributes towards future needs with comprehensive insights and recommendations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Recommends and designs actionable short and long-term roadmaps and oversees the successful execution of subsequent tactical and operational activities and objectives.2.    Oversees the development, implementation, and review of department policies, procedures, and work standards ensuring compliance with the Tribe’s objectives and Tribal Council expectations.3.    Manages large-scale special projects and coordinates interdepartmental efforts to executive on the Tribal Council's initiatives and goals. Develops executive-quality documentation and presentations for senior leadership.4.    Ensures appropriate project methodologies are applied consistently across all projects and programs. Ensures variances to project schedule, scope, and budget are proactively managed and approved through formal change control processes. Performs risk assessments, develops mitigation plans, and manages risks throughout the project lifecycle.5.    Provides metrics, reports, ad-hoc analysis, and predictive analysis to produce actionable assessments and recommendations.  Performs process risk assessments against current and future state designs. Develops and automates reports and dashboards for applicable stakeholders, as needed.6.    Develops and manages the department’s annual budget including forecasting the need for additional funds and approving expenses. Conducts monthly analysis of expenditures and identifies alternatives to manage costs.7.    Collaborates with department leaders to resolve escalated concerns and challenges and identifies gaps for continuous process improvement recommendations. Spearheads collegial partnerships with stakeholder groups and other departments and develops relationships within the surrounding community to include civic leaders and organizations, neighborhood groups, businesses, and educational institutions.8.    Collaborates with functional teams to identify actionable metrics, reports, and analytics and provides analysis and recommendations that aid project investment decisions.9.    Oversees tactical coordination support for event requests, logistics support, and provides additional support on Tribal Council-sponsored events, which may require driving.10.    Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum five (5) years of prior experience in customer experience required. Tribal experience preferred. 

  • Minimum seven (7) years of direct supervisory experience is required.

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial principles.

  • Strong understanding of Lean Six Sigma.

  • Strong experience with systems analysis and functional design.

  • Strong technical, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to simplify terminology that a non-technical end-user and/or senior executive can understand.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with all levels of team members including executives and cross-functional teams. 

  • Out-of-the-box thinker who is passionate about writing and energized by the challenge of digging into complex and multi-business unit information and turning it into engaging and useful content. 

  • Able to provide effective customer service support in a fast-paced environment and possess a demeanor that is excited by a dynamic environment of continual change and improvement.

  • Must have experience demonstrating the utmost discretion and confidentiality.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • Select One of the Following:

    • ☒ Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

    • ☐ Driving Responsibilities: Role requires regular commuting between locations. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits is required. Role will not operate or drive Tribe-owned vehicles or patron vehicles.

    • ☐ No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.
