Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Management, the Environmental Biologist (EB) is responsible for the operational support of all environmental natural resource protection and outreach for the Tribe. The EB maintains, develops and implements environmental programs and activities, while also ensuring that the Tribe complies with Federal and Tribal environmental policies and regulations. The EB assists the Environmental department with protecting flora and fauna for the Tribe in light of its economic, cultural, and political objectives. The Environmental Biologist also supports the sustainable development and capacity building of the Environmental department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops, updates, and performs tasks in accordance with approved San Manuel, quality assurance project plans as they relate to biological resources protection and outreach.2. Understands Federal/Tribal Environmental Laws & Regulations. Ensures that all programs, activities, and projects on the reservation are in compliance. Assists in defining, maintaining, and enforcing environmental policies and regulations.3. Conducts field observations, assessments, inventories, and surveys as they relate to all environmental media, policies, and project plans.4. Maintains the environmental database for analysis and evaluation.5. Develop and implement new environmental programs and policies related to all environmental media including water quality, air quality, solid waste management, vector control, natural resource protection, and outreach.6. Coordinates and assists the Environmental department with outreach and education to the Tribal community including residents and team members. Works with other departments regarding environmental policies and programs.7. Assists with the development, preparation, and submission of environmental documents and reports, as necessary.8. Attends conferences, training, workshops, and peer group meetings to increase knowledge and build Environmental department capacity.9. Supports department programs that may include water quality, air quality, solid waste management, vector control programs, and outreach for the Tribe.10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
EDUCATIONAL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Biology and/or related field is required.
A master’s degree is preferred.
Minimum two (2) years of related experience and/or training is required.
Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Must be able to handle sensitive, complex issues and or/situations and is expected to maintain confidentiality.
Willingness to attend training that will augment the skills needed to perform the work detailed above is required.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

☒ Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
☐ Driving Responsibilities: Role requires regular commuting between locations. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits is required. Role will not operate or drive Tribe-owned vehicles or patron vehicles.
☐ No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.
Candidate must obtain or possess certification as a California licensed raptor handler.
Candidate must have all credentials required for nesting surveys in accordance with MBTA.
A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
Must be able to undergo and successfully pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal background investigation, and credit check.
Must obtain or possess certification in 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training, Environmental, Natural Resources, and/or Earth Sciences within one (1) year of employment.
