Senior Manager General Ledger

Reporting to the VP, Accounting & Reporting, the Senior Manager, General Ledger provides support and leadership within the enterprise’s general ledger function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency within the accounting processes and procedures. The Senior Manager, General Ledger assists in preparing, reviewing and analyzing financial statements and general ledger reconciliations, and provides insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making. The Senior Manager, General Ledger creates and evaluates internal accounting controls and policies to assess potential improvement opportunities within the general ledger functions and across the enterprise. The Senior Manager, General Ledger, will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise in accounting principles, and a strategic mindset to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Oversees the accounting operations of the general ledger function, including the month-end close process, preparation and review of account reconciliations, and ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal controls and policies.2.    Assists with the preparation and analysis of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other required ad-hoc financial reports and tax filings.3.    Supports external and internal audits and examinations, including working with auditors, ensuring timely and accurate completion of audit requests, and addressing any audit findings and recommendations.4.    Assists in developing strategic plans, which include the goals and objectives for general ledger accounting and shared values.5.    Conducts research and implementation of technical accounting pronouncements.6.    Assists in supporting the enterprise resource planning (ERP), including related controls and process development and implementation.    7.    Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. 

  • Masters degree in Accounting or MBA is preferred. 

  • Minimum seven (7) years of professional accounting experience is required. 

  • Minimum four (4) years of supervisory experience is required. 

  • Public accounting experience and/or public company experience is desirable. 

  • Related, relevant, and direct experience may be considered in lieu of the minimum educational requirements indicated above. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Financial audit and United States Generally Accepted Accounting Practices compliant knowledge and experience is required. 

  • Demonstrated leadership, ability, and aptitude for computer systems and spreadsheet analysis. 

  • Intermediate to advanced user of integrated computerized accounting systems. 

  • Ability to supervise and maintain a variety of highly confidential accounting, finance, and administrative duties requiring a thorough knowledge of organizational procedures. 

  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. 

  • High level of integrity and flexibility, with a positive team-oriented "can-do" attitude. 

  • Superior analytical and computer skills, and strong attention to detail. 

  • Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude and possess significant professional knowledge. 

  • Willing to work overtime, especially at the end of the month/quarter/year. 

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • Select One of the Following:

    • ☐ Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

    • ☒ Driving Responsibilities: Role requires regular commuting between locations. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits is required. Role will not operate or drive Tribe-owned vehicles or patron vehicles.

    • ☐ No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.

  • An active Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license is preferred.
