Position Summary:

The Surveillance Director is responsible for protection of company assets by managing, supervising, hiring, training, coaching and development of all Surveillance Department personnel. Establishes and maintains all aspects of the Surveillance system/ CCTV (closed circuit television) and Access Control system, ensuring that the overall health of CCTV & ACC systems with the assistance of the Surveillance Systems & Access Control Administrator.

Note: Native American preference will be given.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop successful supervisors to ensure company operations are adhered to in accordance with the Gaming Compact, Pueblo of Tesuque Tribal Gaming Commission and pursuant to all applicable NIGC requirements, MICS, ICS, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Review the adequacy of internal and external surveillance coverage to include gaming & non-gaming areas, administrative areas and communicates with appropriate departments to address any instances of illegal conduct, procedural non-compliance or safety/security breaches.
  • Responsible for directing the overall operations and staff of the Surveillance department. Develops, implements and manages operational goals and monitors achievements of performance and profit objectives.
  • Ensure that scheduling is done in an effective and efficient manner, while maintaining labor costs, meeting staffing objectives and Gaming regulations.
  • Responsible for monitoring and adhering to budgets and ensuring compliance to departmental budget initiatives. Reports budget concerns / deviations to the Executive Management & Gaming Commission.
  • Develop, enforce, review and approve changes or revisions to operating practices, procedures and standards based on business practices and internal controls.
  • Knowledge of and enforcement of all gaming laws and regulations which apply to the functions and duties of the Surveillance Department for which this position is responsible.
  • Oversees the installation, operation and maintenance of all surveillance & access control related equipment.
  • Informs a member of Executive Team and/or Gaming Commission of any irregular activities.
  • Submits all appropriate reports when incidents, infractions, and violations occur.
  • Serve as liaison with gaming regulators, public law enforcement, and other agencies as it relates to Surveillance by maintaining a positive and constructive relationship.
  • Conduct, supervise and prepare reports relating to any incident that is reported.
  • Protect and preserve the assets of the company.
  • Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes, and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs.
  • Ensures customer service standards are followed by all team members and addresses issues as they arise. Responsible for the overall achievement of department customer service goals.
  • Responsible for ensuring the compliance with all regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and reporting potential issues to Executive Management & Gaming Commission.
  • Develops and implements a training syllabus and program to ensure consistent training and certification among surveillance personnel 
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters.

Experience and Education:

  • 8 years’ experience Senior Casino Surveillance Management position, or experience in a related field acceptable; or an equivalent combination of training, experience, and education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in the casino/gaming industry at a Surveillance Director or Manager level.
  • Strong experience communicating effectively with guests, Team Members and management in both written and verbal form.
  • Experience with Title 31 regulations and casino operation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8 years’ experience Senior Casino Surveillance Management position, or experience in a related field acceptable; or an equivalent combination of training, experience, and education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in the casino/gaming industry at a Surveillance Director or Manager level.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of casino operations, casino games, casino cheating, embezzlement scams, and Title 31 regulations.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task under demanding conditions.
  • Must have the ability to work in a high energy, high pressure environment.
  • Must have a high degree of integrity in performing job duties.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of video surveillance systems.
  • Advanced computer knowledge; proficient in all Microsoft applications to include email use, incident report data entry, and report writing.
  • Must be able to work constantly changing schedules to adjust to fluctuating business levels, including holidays.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, and obtain and maintain a gaming license from the Pueblo of Tesuque Gaming Commission.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

The Surveillance Director is responsible for overseeing the Surveillance Department, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. The supervisor provides guidance and assistance in addressing unusual situations that may arise, particularly those without clear precedents or requiring interpretation of policies and regulations.

Following initial training, the Surveillance Director is expected to perform duties independently, demonstrating proficiency and autonomy in task execution. Regular spot checks are conducted to evaluate accuracy, adequacy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and policies.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be in good physical condition and will be subject to extended periods of sitting.  Electrical hazards exist around monitors, power supplies, and any other existing surveillance components. Ability to work flexible hours, shifts, or days as determined by business demands. The incumbent occasionally exposed to loud noise, change in temperatures, and second-hand smoke.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in an office and casino setting with occasional exposure to second-hand smoke and a high noise level. Due to the nature and scope of this position, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours and irregular shifts will be required.
