Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the Teacher Associate supports the classroom environment with instruction and with the care of students. The Teacher Associate performs a variety of instructional duties, while supporting a safe and orderly environment for students and staff. The role of the Teacher Associate is to support the learning of students to ensure that the teacher can maintain an immersion setting for Serrano instruction and co-teaching. The Teacher Associate is a co-teacher in the learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Co-teaches by preparing lesson plans and conducting class lessons; to support the needs of a wide array of learners in the classroom environment.  Supports the teacher with implementation of classroom activities and in providing a safe environment for students

2. With teacher guidance and instructional alignment, prepares educational materials and equipment for classroom use; operates instructional equipment; sets up and prepares classroom bulletin boards, work areas, displays and exhibits; checks in and out student supplies and materials; maintains inventory of books, audiovisual and other classroom materials.

3. Assists students on an individual or group basis in basic academic, testing, language, computer, and specialized subject areas relative to their level of learning.   Supports the supervision of students to maintain an effective classroom and a safe school environment, sharing in the responsibility of the safety and physical well-being of the children.

4. Collaborate with teacher regarding the input on students’ progress through observations and daily contacts while assisting in maintaining accurate student progress records and the confidentiality of those records as assigned.  Supports positive and professional relationships with students and parents in a kind and courteous manner, for formal and informal conferencing. 

5. Assists in organizing learning materials, equipment, classroom and set up materials for daily activities. Accompanies teachers and students on field trips and other student-related, extracurricular activities.

6. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

 EDUCATIONAL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  •  Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required or an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with the understanding that a bachelor’s degree is required within 4 years from date of hire.  

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with elementary age students is required.  

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience supporting a teacher in a classroom setting is preferred.  

  • Experience in early childhood development and student enrichment services is preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA) 

  •  Must be willing and capable to learn the Serrano language. 

  • Knowledge of and experience with Indian Tribes is preferred. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to students and learning.   

  • Excellent relationship-building and management skills. 

  • Strong problem-solving and consensus-building abilities. 

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively. 

  • Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently. 

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS 

  • As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents are required to pass pre- and post-employment screening including Live-Scan, background, drug testing, and tuberculosis (TB) testing. 

  • Select One of the Following:  

  • ​​☒​ Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.  

  • ​​☐​ Driving Responsibilities: Role requires regular commuting between locations. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits is required. Role will not operate or drive Tribe-owned vehicles or patron vehicles. 

  • ​​☐​ No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.
