Responsible for the successful overall management of the PBX operation of Guest Safety department to ensure that phone calls are answered and connected in a timely manner and that accurate general information is available and provided to callers.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to effectively perform independently, making sound decisions as needed.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and a clear speaking voice.
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, PBX equipment; one-three years experience as a PBX operator is required; with progressive supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate a computer, typewriter, paging system, beepers, radios, copy machine and fax machine is required.
  • Must be able to effectively resolve problems, based on commonsense use of reasoning ability as well as knowledge of established company policies.
  • Must be capable of attending to many items and details simultaneously with accuracy.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively through paging system to entire property as well as in one-on-one situations with guest and other team members.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels in PBX by interviewing, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, promoting, disciplining and terminating team members, as needed.
  • Supervises the activities of all PBX operators to ensure prompt efficient service is given in receiving and distributing calls, paging, wake-up service, do-not-disturb service and messages.
  • Updates telephone directory for the property as needed and maintains current phone directories from each department.
  • Trains and directs PBX operators in proper emergency procedures and supervises the PBX operators in administering same, in a calm, efficient manner.
  • Effectively resolves problems with the PBX operations as well as minor guest conflicts/complaints in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Updates PBX training manual and implements same, as necessary.
  • Assists with phone repairs, ordering of equipment, moves and changes, as necessary; assures that all equipment functions properly; advises PBX staff of any technical problems with systems on property.
  • Facilitates the flow of information throughout the PBX operation of Facilities by organizing and presiding over regularly scheduled meetings with all PBX team members.
  • Held accountable for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all dispatch procedures, train and assist employees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
