Under the direction of the Executive Steward, the Steward Supervisor directs, assists, supervises and trains all Stewards in maintaining all assigned kitchen and Food & Beverage work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition on a daily basis. The Steward Supervisor ensures the facilities meet all San Manuel and Health Department regulations. The Stewarding Supervisor operates in representation of the Stewarding team’s best in class culture, while championing the goals and priorities of the Tribe in a manner that reflects and upholds the Tribal Community’s vision, mission and values.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assists in managing daily administrative duties of the department. Assists in establishing and implementing cleaning schedules, and maintaining and updating cleaning schedules on an ongoing basis. Responsible for conducting performance appraisals of all team members in a timely manner. Maintains high level of quality and professionalism at all times within the department, enterprise and community.
2. Accomplishes department objectives by supervising Lead Steward, Utility steward and IC stock and organizing and monitoring work processes. Responsible for enforcing current health and safety guidelines Accomplishes staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees. Plans, monitors, and appraises job results. Conducts training. Assists in implementing ongoing training programs for dishwashing, maintenance, sanitation and safety. Keeps up-to-date with knowledge of (and use of) chemicals and electrical equipment used in the department. Trains all subordinates on all SDS sheets, updates and manuals. Oversees cleanliness, service and productivity standards for all areas on a daily basis and coordinates training programs to achieve standards. Ensures a safe work environment for all employees through compliance with established safety guidelines; identifies and takes action to address safety hazards and reports such to Risk Management.
3. Practices sanitation and safety according to accepted San Manuel standards. Maintain refuse area. Maintains cleanliness of all Back of House areas including all floors, walls and ceilings, according to standard.
4. Assists in managing and controlling costs associated within department to include but not limited to labor and expenses. Maintains inventory levels of all china, glass, flatware, chemicals and all supplies associated with department needs.
5. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Food and Beverage storeroom/Stewarding operation or Food and Beverage Management experience required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safe, sanitary cleaning procedures, various commercial kitchen and cleaning equipment, and supervision of department personal.
- Proven ability to manage and train staff associated with in department. Working knowledge of chemicals and applications of same. Understanding of Union Labor Law and Contracts.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement daily assignments. Ability to operate and manage a computer workstation including the Microsoft Office package.
- Able to work under time constraints.
- A strong leader with a solid background in stewarding, creative, and an effective trainer/teacher with excellent interpersonal skills. This is a high volume, multi-unit operation that requires a proactive, innovative personality.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Able to effectively train subordinate staff.
- Must be able to show good judgement skills in all areas of supervision and leadership roles.
- Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
- At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
- Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe certification within 90 days of employment.
