Position Summary

Dispatches tribal law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other tribal service units to emergency and non-emergency scenes/calls; provides responders with complete and accurate information to ensure officer safety and prompt response. Communicates with other outside agencies both by radio and telephone as needed.

 Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Answers multi-line phones, both administrative and 911; records incoming calls via land line and radio transmissions.
  2. Dispatches emergency units in response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; determines the nature and location of calls; prioritizes response and dispatches appropriate agency.
  3. Communicates with police officers, EMS personnel, Fire personnel, and outside agencies via radio.
  4. Provides general information as requested by the public; creates and categorizes all calls for service from the public.
  5. Provides concise and accurate information to appropriate emergency/non-emergency units.
  6. Maintains accurate records of the location and status of all field units; documents all calls, phone and radio.
  7. Assists callers in emergency first aid as prescribed in state-recognized emergency medical dispatch procedures if certified.
  8. Accesses and disseminates information maintained in available data bases such as: National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NMLETS), New Mexico Crime Information Center (NMCIC), Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) and New Mexico Department of Motor Vehicles files.
  9. Maintains updated files of current warrants, criminal complaints, civil complaints, restraining orders and probation paperwork.
  10. Updates and maintains lists of contacts of various emergencies.
  11. Maintains adequate copies of all forms necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  12. Prepares reports upon request of supervisor, Captain or Chief of Police.
  13. Reports any malfunctions of equipment to supervisor.
  14. Maintains current NCIC certification; trains dispatch and police officers on use of NCIC.
  15. Stays current on the proper procedure to request confidential information that field units need, e.g. who a cell phone is registered to.
  16. Notifies chain of command to any major incidents; reports any NCIC security violations.

17. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to

      report to work based upon the assigned scheduled each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for

      Pueblo Sandia.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (To Be Redlined)

  1. Knowledge of the scope, landmarks and geological locations within the Pueblo of Sandia.
  2. Knowledge of principles and practices of radio dispatch and communication.
  3. Skill in the operation of computers and office equipment that includes copier, telephone and audio equipment.
  4. Skill in preparing clear, concise, accurate, and complete written reports.
  5. Ability to use call management and mapping system and recording equipment for radio and phones.
  6. Ability to operate radio communication equipment, enhanced 911 telephone equipment, digital recording equipment, computers, printers and TTD (Deaf/Hearing Impaired) telephone, facsimile machine and photocopy machine.
  7. Ability to remain calm and handle emergency situations.
  8. Ability to perform duties under stress, maintain composure and professionalism under stressful conditions and in the face of provocation.
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information as directed by tribal and police policies.
  10. Ability to learn equipment used in performing duties.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, tribal government and other law enforcement and Public Safety agencies.
  12. Ability to refer to and use manuals regarding the use of equipment and emergency procedures.
  13. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  15. Ability to work well with others.

   Education And Experience

Required

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  2. Two (2) years related experience in data entry, computer applications, telephone communications or emergency communications/radio dispatching.

Note:  Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy education and/or work experience. 

License/Certifications/Registrations

  1. Must possess and maintain the following current licenses and/or certifications:
    1. NMLEA Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification.
  1. Must maintain New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification.
  2. EMD Certification (Emergency Medical Dispatch) is preferred.
  3. Must be able to obtain and maintain NCIC (National Crime Information Center) Certification within 60 days of hire.
  4. Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification within 60 days of hire.
  5. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation and character investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  6. Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.
