Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the Physical Education (P.E.) Teacher models and teaches skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports to elementary students and youth in after school program to utilize courses of study adopted by the state of California. The P.E. Teacher plays an essential role in creating the foundation for physical and emotional well-being through physical activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Curriculum 

Implements a standards-based curriculum aligned with state and national Physical Education Standards. Supports the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and effective instructional strategies for physical education curriculum. Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each student's needs. Establishes a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect, cooperation, and active student participation. Sets clear expectations for behavior and academic and physical performance, and consistently enforces classroom rules and procedures. Manages student behavior effectively, addressing conflicts or disciplinary issues promptly and respectfully. Fosters a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and engaging in meaningful discussions.

2. Student Centered Differentiation   

Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with learning disabilities. Supports the school in inventory and purchase of equipment necessary for delivering a developmentally appropriate physical education program. Plans and delivers engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities. Provides additional support or enrichment activities to students who require individualized attention. Collaborates with special education teachers, intervention specialists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans as needed.

3. Organized Athletics 

Develops and implements fitness activities designed to promote lifelong habits of exercise and health. Plans activities during lunch, recess, and after school programs such as yard games to help students develop motor skills, social skills, and cultivate an interest in being active. Organizes schoolwide physical fitness events such as field day and fitness week to promote emotional well-being and help students develop life skills like communication and teamwork.

4. Communication and Collaboration 

Establishes and maintains open and regular communication with students, parents, and guardians to keep them informed about student progress, classroom activities, and upcoming events. Collaborates with content-area teachers and school leadership to align instruction and support a cohesive educational experience. Attends staff meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences to enhance professional growth and contribute to the school community.

5. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

 EDUCATIONAL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.   

  • Experience in early childhood development and student enrichment services is preferred. 

  • Valid Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education is required.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA) 

  • Must be willing and capable to learn the Serrano language. 

  • Knowledge of and experience with Indian Tribes is preferred. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to students and learning.   

  • Excellent relationship-building and management skills. 

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS 

  • Valid Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education is required. 

  • As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents are required to pass pre- and post-employment screening including Live-Scan, background, drug testing, and tuberculosis (TB) testing.

  • Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
