Working under the direction of the VP Procurement, the Director Logistics and Fleet is responsible to build and execute the strategy for the logistics and fleet footprint and capabilities. This role works in partnership with executive leadership, business units, and vendors to understand needs and challenges and to execute successful strategic plans while ensuring best in class tactical execution. The Director, Logistics and Fleet is also responsible for leading and developing the logistics and fleet teams to deliver unparalleled service to internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Collaborates with leadership to develop and define logistics and fleet strategies and creates functional strategies and specific objectives to improve operational performance.2. Conducts a thorough analysis of the existing fleet operations (cars, shuttles, trucks and specialized vehicles, including the operations of internal maintenance shop) and ensures all programs, drivers, inspections, and vehicles are in compliance with both internal controls and governmental regulations.  3. Develops polices/procedures to support functional infrastructure that focuses or enhances on the department’s goals of day-to-day delivery of logistics and fleet operations.4. Analyze and identify opportunities to continually improve logistics and fleet solutions, focusing on cost effective and customer focused solutions. Collaborates with external suppliers, procurement, and other internal teams to ensure the teams are meeting business needs, identifies opportunities for efficiency.  5. Develops and manages logistics and fleet Key Performance Indicators, benchmarks and solid executive reporting including inventory, capacity, and turnover6. Responsible for driving a culture of safety, maintains safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.  7. Establishes long-term and short-term product handling protocol and storage requirements.  Implement and manage reuse, liquidation, and disposal programs8. Analyzes logistics and fleet market trends, data, and internal source material in order to mitigate impact to operational workflows. Identifies upcoming issues and communicates to leadership and potentially impacted teams or stakeholders in a timely manner.9. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

•    Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Distribution Management, Operations Management, or associated discipline required. •    Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience managing logistics and/or distribution teams in a high-volume warehousing environment required.•    Minimum of seven (7) years of supervisory/management experience required.  •    Experience leading supply chain, logistics or fleet across a multi-site network. •    Experience managing and mentoring at all levels, including people-managers, exempt professionals, and hourly staff.  •    Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

•    Six Sigma or continuous improvement and/or lean initiatives experience desired. •    Demonstrated impact and influence with both cross-functional and senior leadership •    Experience with and knowledge of Logistics best in class practices and industry benchmarks. •    Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate information that is clear and relevant to the intended audience. •    Possesses strong collaboration skills, both with peers, internal stakeholders, and external partners.  •    Must be customer centric and focused on customer success.•    Composure, relevance and effectiveness in the presence of subordinates, peers and “C-Level” leadership.•    Demonstrated analytical, organizational, strategic, and planning skills.•    Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively as part of a team in a highly matrixed organization.•    Must have the ability to create and sustain a culture of accountability

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

•    At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.•    Select One of the Following: 

  • ☒ Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is a federally-recognized Indian tribe located on the San Manuel Indian Reservation near Highland, California.  San Manuel exercises its inherent sovereign right of self-governance and provides essential services for its citizens by building infrastructure, maintaining civil services, and promoting social, economic, and cultural development.  

 The Serrano people of San Manuel have called this area home since time immemorial and are committed to remaining a productive partner in the San Bernardino region. The Reservation, once only 640 acres, is now over 1,100 acres in size.
