San Manuel teachers play an essential role in creating the foundation of academic rigor and establishing culturally rich classrooms by upholding the school's mission, and values, aligned to the Tribe’s 2040 vision. Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the STEAM teacher models, delivers, and crafts rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.The STEAM teacher works with existing instructional staff to strengthen instruction in all core content areas and assists in the development of the school’s Makerspace, STEAM program goals, and objectives consistent with the vision, mission, and values of the school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Curriculum
- Delivers rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math independently and in partnership with teachers.
- Models, creates and supports strategies that weave STEAM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula.
- Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of the connection between technology, computer science, and other fields of study.
- Develops and implements a STEAM culture by facilitating project-based learning experiences for students.
- Establishes a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect, cooperation, and active student participation.
- Sets clear expectations for behavior and academic performance, and consistently enforces classroom rules and procedures.
- Manages student behavior effectively and addresses conflicts or disciplinary issues promptly and respectfully.
- Fosters a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and engaging in meaningful discussions.
2. Student Centered Differentiation
- Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Provides additional support or enrichment activities to students who require individualized attention.
- Designs, develops, assesses, and manages STEAM learning experiences, including both student-centered and individualized instruction supporting all learning styles.
- Collaborates with special education teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans as needed.
3. Special Projects/Portfolio of STEAM Learning
- Develops student portfolios that include project work samples and finished assignments that measure their learning progress and skills over time.
- Develops successful members of the global society promoting the 4 C’s of the 21st century learning skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creative thinking.
- Provides students with a way to track their own progress and reflect on their own learning, motivating students to do their best work.
- Assesses and identifies any patterns or trends that emerge to identify areas of growth that require individualized attention.
4. Communication and Collaboration
- Establishes and maintains open and regular communication with students, parents, and guardians to keep them informed about student progress, classroom activities, and upcoming events.
- Collaborates with grade-level teams, content-area teachers, and school leadership to align instruction and support a cohesive educational experience.
- Attends staff meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences to enhance professional growth and contribute to the school community.
5. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
EDUCATIONAL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.
- A degree focused on science, technology, or other STEAM related field of study is preferred.
- California State Teaching Credential is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
- Must be willing and capable to learn the Serrano language.
- Knowledge of California’s Computer Science Standards, Arts Standards, and K-12 Progression, grade level academic content standards is preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with Indian Tribes is preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to students and learning.
- Excellent relationship-building and management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and consensus-building abilities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.
- Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
- California State Teaching Credential is required.
- As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents are required to pass pre- and post-employment screening including Live-Scan, background, drug testing, and tuberculosis (TB) testing.
