Position Summary

Supervises dispatch staff and daily operations of the communications center. Dispatches tribal law enforcement, fire, EMS, rescue, and other tribal support service units to all emergency and non-emergency scenes and calls; provides responders with complete and accurate information to ensure officer safety and prompt response. Communicates with other outside agencies both by radio and telephone as needed.

 Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the dispatching of Police, EMS, fire, and tribal support services ensuring calls are handled in a timely and efficient manner.
  2. Implements and maintains dispatch schedule to ensure all shifts have adequate coverage.
  3. Maintains timekeeping system; edits timesheets and submits payroll by scheduled deadline.
  4. Maintains a written log of telephone and radio calls, quality check reports and data entries for accuracy.
  5. Serves as manager for a 911 Public Service Answering Point (PSAP); maintains equipment and schedules for repairs as needed.
  6. Provides a variety of general information to community residents, road and weather conditions and travel directions.
  7. Maintains updated files of current warrants, criminal complaints, civil complaints, restraining orders, and probation paperwork.
  8. Prepares statistical reports on calls for service, 911 activity, crime types, officer calls reports, and traffic data on request by the Police Chief and/or Police Captain.
  9. Screens incoming radio and telephone calls and makes appropriate referrals to the shift supervisor or other law enforcement officers.
  10. Issues memos, procedures and directives in relation to operation of Communications Center.
  11. Maintains Master Street address guide for the Pueblo of Sandia and updates data base; prepares bi-annual Master Street address guide and publishes new guide.
  12. Troubleshoots RMS/CAD, radio and other communications equipment and contacts vendors or IT to resolve issues; ensures equipment is in proper operational order.
  13. Maintains current working knowledge of trends in emergency communications.
  14. Keeps leadership and other departments informed of status of department activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
  15. Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure communication among staff regarding program related activities.
  16. Assists with development of; interpreting of and uploading SOP, policies and rules and regulations.
  17. Conducts employee evaluations using departmental rules, regulation, laws and professional standards of conduct. Recommends disciplinary actions.
  18. Ensures compliance of NMLEA Public Safety Communicator Certifications.
  19. Provides career coaching through mentoring and arranges for outside training opportunities when possible. 

20. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to  

      report to work based upon the assigned scheduled each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for  

      Pueblo Sandia.

   Education And Experience

 Required

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  2. Five (5) years’ experience as a communications operator or dispatcher including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

Note:  Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy education and/or work experience. 

License/Certifications/Registrations

  1. Must possess and maintain the following current licenses and/or certifications:
    1. NMLEA Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification
  2. Must obtain and maintain NCIC (National Crime Information Center) Certification within 60 days of hire.
  3. Must obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification within 60 days of hire.
