Position Summary

Responsible for providing instruction to individual or small groups of K-12 students to improve academic performance.

Supervision Exercised

Reports to the Education Administrator

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Provide individualized and group tutorial instruction to students.
  2. Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
  3. Organize and maintain a tutoring environment that promotes productivity and learning.
  4. Develop teaching or support materials, such as handouts, study materials, or quizzes.
  5. Communicate students' progress to students, parents, and/or Education Department staff.
  6. Make referrals, when appropriate, to the Education Department if students require services other than tutorial services.
  7. Maintain records of students' progress, feedback, or academic performance, ensuring confidentiality of all records.
  8. Research or recommend textbooks, software, equipment, or other learning materials to complement tutoring.
  9. Attend required training, professional development, and staff meetings.

  1. Knowledge of age appropriate teaching strategies.
  2. Effective communication and active listening skills.
  3. Ability to explain material to students who have different learning styles.
  4. Ability to show patience and remain calm in stressful situations.
  5. Knowledge of positive behavior interventions.
  6. Ability to identify student problems and recommend solutions to Education Administrator.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, families, and service providers.
  8. Respect for cultural beliefs, values and traditions of the Pueblo of Sandia.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. Three (3) years’ experience in an Education environment.

Preferred:

3. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or related field from an accredited college or university

4. State of New Mexico Teaching License

Licensing Status

  1. Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.

Working Conditions

  1. Duties are performed indoors and outdoors.
  2. Work is normally performed on weekdays; infrequent weekend and evening work may be required.
  3. Duties may involve walking, climbing, crouching, kneeling, sitting, and standing.
  4. Specific required movements include the following: (40 lbs. Max.)
  • Trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, carry
  • Arms-reach, carry, push, pull, twist rotate
  • Legs-push, pull, twist, rotate
  • Hands-grasp, manipulate, eye and hand coordination.
