Position Summary
To manage and support long term hydrology monitoring and habitat restoration efforts for the Pueblo of Sandia.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Leads, designs, and conducts comprehensive hydrologic investigations including quantitative analyses of surface and groundwater availability and water usage.
- Provides expertise in surface water hydrology, river hydraulics, sediment transport, fluvial geomorphology, river restoration, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in support of managing and protecting Pueblo resources.
- Collects and analyzes surface and groundwater data. Uses commercially available software and/or hires consultants to evaluate surface and groundwater resources. Characterizes the extent and predicts the quantity of surface and groundwater resources.
- Acts as a liaison in hydrological matters between the Pueblo and other agencies such as the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, state agencies, and experts in academia, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.
- Makes recommendations to the Environment Department Director, General Counsel, and Pueblo Leadership related to unique and important river, floodplain, water supply, and water rights issues of local, regional, or national significance.
- Interprets state and federal water policy, reviews proposed laws and regulations that may affect Pueblo water resources and water rights and prepares comments/reports that shape the Pueblo’s response to and position on such proposals.
- Makes presentations to Tribal Council and Leadership.
- Writes and manages federal, state, and private grants for hydrological projects.
- May provide expert testimony in water rights related proceedings.

- Functions as an advisor to the Pueblo staff and Leadership and sets goals that are results oriented, organized, and account for business challenges.

Education And Experience
Required
- Bachelors of Science in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geology, Geophysics, or Fluvial Geomorphology, and four (4) years of experience performing hydrological and/or hydrogeological analyses, studies, and investigations.
Preferred
- Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geology, Geophysics, or Fluvial Geomorphology, plus two (2) years of experience as described above.
License/Certifications/Registrations
- Must be able to successfully pass a Background Investigation.
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.

Working Conditions Required
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outside work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
- Attend trainings for and maintain: 1st Aid and CPR, and Blood Borne Pathogens certifications.
- Work hours subject to change with occasional overtime work required.
- Subject to hazards which may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts; bruises, burns, common cold, influenza, dust, odors, bodily fluids, and elevated noise levels.
- Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
